Many times, people who have been victims of scams call the police to inquire as to whether they have heard of the tactic, and if a financial recovery is possible. The dispatcher is the first to take this information, and as such, they should be very familiar with the different types of scams that are presently being employed in their jurisdiction. In this course a variety of scams will be fully described along with measures that should be taken to possibly retain or recover part or all of a victim’s financial well-being. In addition, public messaging strategies will be discussed with the goal of informing your residents before they become victims.

Specifically, this course will cover the following subject matters;

·         Reporting procedures regarding scams

·         Resources to reach out to a state and federal level

·         Credit Bureau reporting and follow up

·         Basics of identity theft

·         The limitless number of scams that can be employed

·         Self-protective measures relative to scams

·         Jurisdictional issues with scams

·         Possible criminal charges associated with scams

·         Public Service Announcement strategies

·         Information sharing amongst law enforcement agencies
