“Behind the Call': A transformative 4-hour stress management and mental wellness program for 911 Dispatchers. This training provides dispatchers with the tools and strategies to effectively manage stress in their high-pressure work environment. This training recognizes dispatcher’s unique challenges, helping them manage stress effectively to play a crucial role in emergency response systems.
Dispatchers will explore evidence-based stress management techniques, such as mindfulness, breathing exercises, cognitive reframing, and stress reduction strategies. They will also learn how to recognize the signs of stress and burnout, implement effective self-care practices, and establish a support network within their professional community.
Course Content:
· Help better understand the Sympathetic/Parasympathetic nervous system for short-term and long-term survival.
· Develop healthy coping skills to manage the stress and trauma of their profession.
· You can't fix what you don't see. Define the statistics of a first responder's career.
· Develop several ways to slow down and even reverse each of these statistics.
· Identify and interrupt negative, ruminating thought patterns.
· Use breathing techniques to lower heart rate and improve focus.
· Apply techniques to maximize sleep: e.g., Progressive Muscle Relaxation and Abdominal Breathing.
· Explore several approaches to develop emotional agility while remaining calm and focused in an authoritative role.
· Master the ability to respond rather than react.
· "Finding Neutral."
· Mental recharging to reduce burnout. Explore building more inner resources to prevent the risk of empathy burnout.
· Recognize the warning signs of suicide within themselves and other officers. Connecting to a deep sense of purpose is the key to emotional resilience and mental toughness.
· Mindfulness techniques, guided imagery, combat tactical breathing.
