Active Shooter calls have increased dramatically in recent years.  From school shootings to workplace violence to terror type public shooting massacres these incidents can take many lives and cause mass panic.  It is essential that first responders and 911 call-takers have a solid understanding of these incredibly challenging incidents

Course Overview:

  • Understanding the Active Shooter Scenario; Definition of an Active Shooter Event, Types of Active Shooter Incidents, Statistics & Real-life examples.
  • Preparation for the Event; Establish relationships, Technology and Equipment, Planning and Training and Exercises and Drills.
  • Police and Fire Response, Actions at Crisis Site.
  • Role of the 911 call taker; Primary responsibilities, Key information to obtain from the caller, Call Taker’s approach, Handling Multiple calls, Caller Behavioral Patterns.
  • Communication challenges and Overcoming Barriers.
  • Coordination with First Responders and Incident Command
  • Caller Assistance and Life Saving Instructions
  • Post Incident Procedures
