The training agenda for this program includes the following;
- The basics of uniforms and equipment for traffic details
- Basics of civil motor vehicle infractions that are common on a traffic detail
- Communication basics with the police station
- Work Zone Safety issues to be aware of on a detail
- Environmental issues to be cognizant of on a detail (weather, sun glare, etc)
- Traffic Management issues on a road detail
- How to identify and navigate the inexperienced driver
- How to identify and navigate the elderly or disabled driver
- Dealing with and making safe pedestrians in the area
- Dealing with and making safe bicyclists in the area
- Basics of emergency vehicles traversing the detail area
- Use of voice commands, whistles, and hand motions
- Use of flashlights, flares, and marked cruisers at a traffic detail
- Dealing with an angry motorist at the detail site
- Review of relevant sections of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
- Setting up tapers and other channeling devices at the detail site
- Use of barricades and traffic drums around the detail work area
- Procedures when there is a motor vehicle crash at the deal site
- Knowing when and under what circumstances to shut a traffic detail down
- When to call for relief or additional personnel
- Ethical issues with traffic details
- Police Reform and Union issues applicable to traffic details
